US Burger Chain With Out-Of-This-World Food Makes Its London Debut

Black Tap, a popular New York A burger restaurant famous for its artisanal burgers and over-the-top milkshakes has opened a new location here. London , offering some distinctively American goodies.

From fried pickles to pizza burgers , cheese fries and 'Crazy Shakes,' the menu at Black Tap boasts large portions with vibrant flavors, making every dish look Instagram-worthy.

The restaurant The chain was established in the SoHo district of New York City. Apple In 2015 by Chris Baris and Julie Mulligan, it initially began with just 15 seats. burger bar, before evolving into a global enterprise.

It currently boasts 13 locations globally, including seven in the USA including Disneyland in California , Nashville, and Las Vegas, and it’s also growing into Europe as well.

The new site at Westfield Stratford is the brand’s first in the UK – and it’s already proved such a hit that a second London branch is already in the works, set to open in Soho in the next few months.

The restaurant franchise takes pride in delivering 'the finest comfort food', allowing patrons to select from traditional burgers like the All-American (£16.50), which includes American cheese, a secret sauce, and comes with fries, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle.

For an indulgent option, consider trying the Wagyu Steakhouse Burger (£20), featuring Pepperjack Cheese, crunchy onions, A1 Sauce, and roasted garlic mayonnaise. Alternatively, opt for the Crispy Chicken Burger (£18), topped with buttermilk coleslaw, cilantro, zesty lime, fiery mayo, and Korean BBQ sauce.

There’s also a fish and chips burger available for those who enjoy an unconventional take on a traditional British dish.

You have the option to replace the French fry side with a side salad free of charge, or you may choose from onion rings (£2), sweet potato fries (£1.50), or specialty fries for £3.50 instead.

Those who enjoy chicken have the option to opt for wings seasoned with flavors like Mexican Hot, Black Tap Hot, or Korean BBQ. However, should those choices not appeal to you, the menu offers multiple salad options along with an array of eight distinct sauces to tailor your dish as desired.

Besides their famous burgers, the chain is particularly renowned for their Crazy Shakes. These over-the-top beverages combine milkshakes with generous portions of whipped cream, ice cream, candies, and complete slices of cakes and/or whole cookies.

The most popular choice is the Cake Shake (£14.50), featuring a vanilla-frosted edge adorned with rainbow sprinkles and crowned with a Funfetti cake piece, fluffy whipped cream, additional rainbow sprinkles, and a cherry on top. Alternative selections consist of the Jammy Dodger, Cookies 'N Cream Supreme, Brooklyn Blackout, and Cotton Candy.

The basic flavors of the milkshakes can be replaced with strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, espresso, Lotus Biscuits, or Oreo.

What are customers' thoughts on Black Tap?

The Soho location of this chain in New York boasts over 500 positive reviews on TripAdvisor. The general consensus seems to be that they serve an 'excellent burger', though some find it somewhat expensive.

Roy F awarded four stars, commenting: "It’s a really good spot for burgers. I tried the Tennessee burger. The fries were crisp and delicious with just the right amount of spice from the mayo. Plus, they serve beer on draft."

'It could be just my perception, or perhaps it's the vibe of New York, but $22 seems somewhat pricey.'

Brian M gave a five-star rating and commented, "I visited this place twice for meals. The first time, I was utterly amazed! The burger was outstanding, and the dessert was incredible. On our second visit, it lived up to expectations once again."

Nevertheless, not everybody shares this enthusiasm; Sheila found it to be 'overhyped' and 'too expensive', whereas James expressed his disappointment with the experience.

Over on Reddit A photo of the Cake Shake was shared after a trip to Disneyland, and quickly people labeled this indulgent treat both 'obscene' and an 'abomination'.

A commenter with the username u/Underwater_overseer remarked: 'This is incredibly over-the-top. Was it at all enjoyable? How much of it did you manage to consume before nearly falling into a diabetic coma? Milkshakes are usually my go-to treat, but this one seems quite daunting.'

And u/Stradocaster agreed, adding: 'They are certainly not intended to be genuinely consumed... however, their regular milkshakes are excellent.'

Although u/lordquacks commented: “This is the most quintessentially American thing I have witnessed.”

After debuting in the UK in November, Black Tap has received highly favorable ratings on Google, earning an impressive score of 4.8 out of five stars.

A lot of people readily commented that the cuisine was 'delicious' and noted that the 'enormous, unconventional' milkshakes indeed match their description.

Lukas Mikulic mentioned: "I visited BlackTap not long ago, and boy, what an amazing place! Their Wagyu burgers were outstanding—so moist and full of flavor, absolutely perfect. Seriously, they rank among the top burgers I've ever tried. And their Crazy Shakes? They truly deserve their reputation! These shakes are enormous, over-the-top, yet incredibly delicious. Each mouthful (or slurp) felt like a sweet treat bursting with delightful flavors. It has such a cool atmosphere and excellent service too—I'll surely be returning here soon. If you haven't checked it out yet, then you're really missing something special!"

Lauren Clarke mentioned: "It has such an awesome atmosphere, really welcoming staff, and the food and drinks are top-notch.
