NHL Suspends Flames' Zary Two Games for Elbowing Pettersson

NEW YORK — The NHL announced on Thursday that Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary will be suspended for two games due to an elbowing incident against Vancouver Canucks defenseman Elias Pettersson.

The event occurred during the initial frame of Vancouver's 4-3 shootout victory against Calgary on Wednesday evening.

As Kadri was moving towards the Canucks' defensive zone, the inexperienced defenseman delivered an open-ice check on the Flames player.

Zary reacted by striking Pettersson above the temple with an elbow and sent him crashing onto the ice. Consequently, he received a minor penalty for interference.

Pettersson skated for an additional shift prior to exiting the match. The Canucks have not shared any specifics regarding his injury.

The Calgary Flames will welcome the Colorado Avalanche this coming Friday and then head to Toronto for a matchup with the Maple Leafs on Monday.

Zary, who will lose out on $8,993.06 in wages, can come back on Tuesday when the Flames play against the New York Rangers.
