AHL General Manager Ships Son in Exchange for Future Assets

The upcoming family gathering at the MacKinnon home could get somewhat uncomfortable.

In a classic "business over family" decision, Utica Comets general manager Dan MacKinnon traded his son, Will, to the Cleveland Monsters in return for future considerations on Thursday.

Will, who is 24 years old, has been sidelined from the Comets' roster for recent matches due to being a healthy scratch. In his time with Utica across the last two seasons, this defenseman played in 82 games and tallied three goals along with seven assists.

The relocation occurs just one day prior to Friday's AHL trade deadline.

Perhaps, as part of "future considerations," Will could receive an even larger Christmas gift from his father this year.
